The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are presenting their 48th annual concert of music, dance and storytelling at the Theater for the New City the weekends of January 13-15 and 20-22, 2023.
This is a unique educational and entertainment experience. The Thunderbirds perform authentic dances of the Iroquois, Southwest and Great Plains Native American peoples. Each dance is introduced with a complete explanation of the dance and its cultural context and is accompanied by live music.
Shows are on Fridays, January 13 and 20, and Saturdays, January 14 and 21 at 8 PM, with ticket prices of $15.
There are also special matinee performances for children on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM, January 14, 15, 21 and 22, with tickets for children from 5 to12 years old only one dollar (children must be accompanied by an adult paying the regular $15 price. Attendance is not recommended for children under 5.)

All dancers must pay a single day admission fee (covering the full weekend) before they enter the pow wow grounds, but there is no dancer registration fee. This spectacular 3-day event is NYC’s largest Powwow and one of the top ten in the USA. It features intertribal Native American dance competitions by over forty Indian Nations. The Grand Entry showcases the dancers’ full regalia and The Sunset Lighting of the Bonfire is an enchanting ceremony. Important Guidelines:
After unloading, performers will move cars and park in the south parking lot. ● On Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be unloaded and parked by 10:00am (Sat/Sun), otherwise they will be required to unload and park in the southside parking lot. ● For the safety of our visitors and for insurance purposes, no cars will be permitted on the farm grounds after 5pm on Friday; 10am on Saturday & Sunday.
Vendors arriving after spectators are welcomed onto Queens Farm grounds MUST enter through the South Gate and their vehicles and ALL cars must maintain 5 mph speed or slower with flashers on while driving on the farm to the Orchard grounds.
● Vendors will be located on the North side of the farm in the Orchard area. ● While driving on the farm grounds, everyone must maintain 5mph speed or slower with flashers on. ● Vendors need to be set-up and operational at 5:00pm before the gates open to the public at 6:00pm on Friday with no driving on the site after 5pm, and 10:00am on Saturday & Sunday; Because the site opens to the public at 10:00am on Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be on unloaded and parked before 10:00am, otherwise they will be required to unload from and park in the designated parking area.

Theater for the New City will present its 46th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Dance Concert and Pow Wow live-streamed from the Johnson Theater, on February 20, 2021 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. This “virtual Pow-Wow” will be accessible from TNC’s website, www.theaterforthenewcity.net, and available there on-demand until February 28, 2021. There will be dances, stories, and traditional music from Native Peoples of the Northeast, Southwest, and Great Plains regions. The event, emceed by Bessie-winner Louis Mofsie (Hopi/Winnebago), has become a treasured New York tradition for celebrating our diversity by honoring the culture of our first Americans. TNC donates all proceeds from this event to college scholarship funds for Native American students. Admission is only $5 and additional donations will be gratefully accepted. The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers and the Queens County Farm Museum are presenting two afternoons of Native American Dance performance on Saturday November 7 and Sunday November 8, 2020, from 12 noon to 4 PM. There will also be merchants selling Native American jewelry, clothing, pottery and other items. This autumnal celebration will be held outdoors at the Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, New York.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only a limited number of people can be admitted. All admissions must be purchased in advance, on-line, and are for specific entrance times. Social distancing and/or face covering are also required. All details and ticket purchases can be found at the Queens Farm website www.QueensFarm.org. The Thunderbirds each day will perform dances from various regions and tribes. Each day will have the same program presented twice, with the Saturday and Sunday programs being different. The planned Saturday program will emphasize Iroquois and Plains dances, while Sunday will highlight Southwestern and Plains dances. Note: this is not a pow-wow open to all dancers; except for limited audience participation, only Thunderbird dancers will be performing. Admissions are $15 for adults, $10 for children 4-11 years old, with those 3 and younger being admitted free. Parking is free. There is no seating provided, so please bring your own chairs or blankets.

Please join the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers for a Native AmericanDance Workshop and Crafts Sale on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 7 to 9 PM.
The workshop is being held at American Indian Community House, 39 Eldridge Street, 4th floor, Manhattan (just north of Canal Street). Please note the new location for the Workshop.
This Dance Workshop is a unique educational opportunity for people of all ages (including children) and backgrounds (both Native and non-Native) to learn Native American dancing. There will also be tables set up with American Indian jewelry and other handmade items, available for purchase at very reasonable prices.
Everyone is welcome to attend, whether to learn the dances, shop or just socialize. Admission is free. (Donations are appreciated, but no one is turned away).
This well attended pow wow will feature three days of inter-tribal Native American dance competitions to which the public is invited. Over 40 Indian nations are represented at this spectacular event held in the apple orchard on the farm grounds. A large selection of quality Native American art, crafts, jewelry and foods are available.
