Please join the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers for our 43rd annual Grand Mid-Summer Pow Wow Friday, July 26, through Sunday July 38, 2024, at the Queens County Farm Museum (73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, NY). 

Gates are open Friday at 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM. Pow Wow dancing will be Friday 7-10 PM, Saturday 1-5 PM and 7-10 PM and Sunday 1-5 PM. There will also be Gourd Dancing at noon on Saturday and Sunday.

We have raised Dancers Contest Prize money in honor of our 60th Anniversary!!!

Admissions must be purchased on-line and preferably in advance.  To purchase admission,  go to queensfarm.org, under Events select Thunderbird Powwow, then “Get Tickets”  and purchase on the linked EventBrite page.  There are some limits on the number of attendees allowed, and although this is quite high, it is recommended to buy tickets in advance.

45th Annual Thunderbird Concert at Theater for the New City 155 First Ave between 9th and 10th St The Lower East Side Village, NYC January 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2024

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are presenting their 49th annual concert of music, dance and storytelling at the Theater for the New City the weekends of January 12-14 and 19-21, 2024.    

This is a unique educational and entertainment experience.  The Thunderbirds perform authentic dances of the Iroquois, Southwest and Great Plains Native American peoples. Each dance is introduced with a complete explanation of the dance and its cultural context and is accompanied by live music. Shows are on Fridays, January 12 and 19, and Saturdays,  January 13 and 20 at 8 PM, with ticket prices of $15.There are also special matinee performances for children on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM, January 13, 14, 20 and 21, 2024 with tickets for children from 5 to12 years old only one dollar (children must be accompanied by an adult paying the regular $15 price.  Attendance is not recommended for children under 5.)

This is a great opportunity for early holiday gift shopping.  Items can often be bought at bargain prices, as opening bids are well below retail prices. All proceeds from this auction are used for the Thunderbird American Indian Scholarship Fund, which has awarded over 500 grants for the college education of Native Americans.All are welcome to attend.  Admission is free.  (Donations are appreciated, but no one is turned away).

On Saturday, the family of Vickie and Sam Tarrant, long-time Thunderbird members who passed away during the pandemic, will be sponsoring an honoring program which will include a giveaway and special Ladies’ and Men’s traditional dance contests.

Parking is free. Only a small number of seats are provided for the audience, so please bring your own seating if possible.  

The Pow Wow grounds will be open rain or shine (except during severe thunderstorms or tornados); however, during rain, some dances may be held in a limited indoor space. 

This spectacular 3-day event is NYC’s largest Powwow and one of the top ten in the USA. It features intertribal Native American dance competitions by over forty Indian Nations. The Grand Entry showcases the dancers’ full regalia and The Sunset Lighting of the Bonfire is an enchanting ceremony. Program features an expansive market of  authentic Native American art, crafts, jewelry and food (don’t miss the fry bread!). An immersive cultural experience not to be missed!

Important Guidelines:

After unloading, performers will move cars and park in the south parking lot.
● On Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be unloaded and parked by 10:00am (Sat/Sun), otherwise they will
be required to unload and park in the southside parking lot.
● For the safety of our visitors and for insurance purposes, no cars will be permitted on the farm
grounds after 5pm on Friday; 10am on Saturday & Sunday.

  • Vendors arriving after spectators are welcomed onto Queens Farm grounds MUST enter through the South Gate and their vehicles and ALL cars must maintain 5 mph speed or slower with flashers on while driving on the farm to the Orchard grounds.

● Vendors will be located on the North side of the farm in the Orchard area.
● While driving on the farm grounds, everyone must maintain 5mph speed or slower with flashers
on.
● Vendors need to be set-up and operational at 5:00pm before the gates open to the public at 6:00pm on Friday with no driving on the site after 5pm, and 10:00am on Saturday & Sunday; Because the site opens to the public at 10:00am on Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be on unloaded and parked before 10:00am, otherwise they will be required to unload from and park in the designated parking area.

Theater for the New City will present its 46th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Dance Concert and Pow Wow live-streamed from the Johnson Theater, on February 20, 2021 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM.  This “virtual Pow-Wow” will be accessible from TNC’s website, www.theaterforthenewcity.net, and available there on-demand until February 28, 2021. There will be dances, stories, and traditional music from Native Peoples of the Northeast, Southwest, and Great Plains regions. The event, emceed by Bessie-winner Louis Mofsie (Hopi/Winnebago), has become a treasured New York tradition for celebrating our diversity by honoring the culture of our first Americans.  TNC donates all proceeds from this event to college scholarship funds for Native American students.  Admission is only $5 and additional donations will be gratefully accepted.  The event is recommended for all ages. Click here for tickets!

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers and the Queens County Farm Museum are presenting two afternoons of Native American Dance performance on Saturday November 7 and Sunday November 8, 2020, from 12 noon to 4 PM.  There will also be merchants selling Native American jewelry, clothing, pottery and other items.
This autumnal celebration will be held outdoors at the Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, New York.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, only a limited number of people can be admitted.  All admissions must be purchased in advance, on-line, and are for specific entrance times. Social distancing and/or face covering are also required.  All details and ticket purchases can be found at the Queens Farm website www.QueensFarm.org.
The Thunderbirds each day will perform dances from various regions and tribes.  Each day will have the same program presented twice, with the Saturday and Sunday programs being different.  The planned Saturday program will emphasize Iroquois and Plains dances, while Sunday will highlight Southwestern and Plains dances.  Note: this is not a pow-wow open to all dancers; except for limited audience participation, only Thunderbird dancers will be performing.  
Admissions are $15 for adults, $10 for children 4-11 years old, with those 3 and younger being admitted free.  
Parking is free.  There is no seating provided, so please bring your own chairs or blankets.

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers will be holding our first indoor event of the 2019/20 fall/winter season. 
Please join the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers for a Native AmericanDance Workshop and Crafts Sale on Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 7 to 9 PM. 
The workshop is being held at American Indian Community House, 39 Eldridge Street, 4th floor, Manhattan (just north of Canal Street).  Please note the new location for the Workshop.
This Dance Workshop is a unique educational opportunity for people of all ages (including children) and backgrounds (both Native and non-Native) to learn Native American dancing.   There will also be tables set up with American Indian jewelry and other handmade items, available for purchase at very reasonable prices.  
Everyone is welcome to attend, whether to learn the dances, shop or just socialize.  Admission is free. (Donations are appreciated, but no one is turned away).

Story-telling has long been an entertaining and educational practice among Native American nations, conveying traditional and spiritual themes to both children and adults.  This evening, accomplished story-tellers from various Native American tribes will regale you with some of their favorite tales.

Quality items gathered all year round, by The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers organization, throughout Indian Country, will be available at an old fashioned auction.

Buy items and learn about Authentic hand-made craftsmanship in: turquoise, silver,  pottery, Native regalia for dancing, instruments, weaving, bead and feather work, Hopi to Maya to Six Nations and more.

Item review starts 6pm. The auction, lead by Louis Mofsie, company director, begins 7pm. Proceeds help send Native students to school and help Thunderbird volunteer members preserve Native American Indian culture and share events with the community. Please help by joining us!!

Auction participants are asked to make payments by cash or check

only.
