Please join the Thunderbird American Indian Dancers for our 43rd annual Grand Mid-Summer Pow Wow Friday, July 29, through Sunday July 31, 2022, at the Queens County Farm Museum (73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, NY). 
 
Gates are open Friday at 6 PM and Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM. Pow Wow dancing will be Friday 7-10 PM, Saturday 1-5 PM and 7-10 PM and Sunday 1-5 PM. There will also be Gourd Dancing at noon on Saturday and Sunday.
 
On Saturday, the family of Vickie and Sam Tarrant, long-time Thunderbird members who passed away during the pandemic, will be sponsoring an honoring program which will include a giveaway and special Ladies’ and Men’s traditional dance contests.  
 
Admissions must be purchased on-line and preferably in advance.  To purchase admission,  go to queensfarm.orgunder Events select Thunderbird Powwow, then “Get Tickets”  and purchase on the linked EventBrite page.  There are some limits on the number of attendees allowed, and although this is quite high, it is recommended to buy tickets in advance. 
 
Admission prices are:
Single-day: $15 for adults and $8 for children (2-12).
Weekend pass: $30 for adults and $16 for children (2-12).
 
Parking is free. Only a small number of seats are provided for the audience, so please bring your own seating if possible.  
 
The Pow Wow grounds will be open rain or shine (except during severe thunderstorms or tornados); however, during rain, some dances may be held in a limited indoor space. 

This spectacular 3-day event is NYC’s largest Powwow and one of the top ten in the USA. It features intertribal Native American dance competitions by over forty Indian Nations. The Grand Entry showcases the dancers’ full regalia and The Sunset Lighting of the Bonfire is an enchanting ceremony. Program features an expansive market of  authentic Native American art, crafts, jewelry and food (don’t miss the fry bread!). An immersive cultural experience not to be missed!

DANCER REGISTRATION
In-person dancer registration will be Friday 5-7 PM & Saturday after 11 AM. Contest dancers must register by Saturday 1 PM.
Although the majority of contest points are given Saturday and Sunday, participation points are awarded for Friday night
dancing. Contests will run rain or shine.  1st, 2nd & 3rd Contest prizes awarded by category.

Categories Include: Tiny Tots, Teens, Adult Women’s and Men’s Traditional, Jingle and Grass Dance, Men’s and Women’s Fancy  Demonstrations in Social Dances, Native American Hoop, Smoke, Yaqui Deer Dances and other specials possible as time permits

Important Guidelines:

After unloading, performers will move cars and park in the south parking lot.
● On Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be unloaded and parked by 10:00am (Sat/Sun), otherwise they will
be required to unload and park in the southside parking lot.
● For the safety of our visitors and for insurance purposes, no cars will be permitted on the farm
grounds after 5pm on Friday; 10am on Saturday & Sunday.

  • Vendors arriving after spectators are welcomed onto Queens Farm grounds MUST enter through the South Gate and their vehicles and ALL cars must maintain 5 mph speed or slower with flashers on while driving on the farm to the Orchard grounds.

● Vendors will be located on the North side of the farm in the Orchard area.
● While driving on the farm grounds, everyone must maintain 5mph speed or slower with flashers
on.
● Vendors need to be set-up and operational at 5:00pm before the gates open to the public at 6:00pm on Friday with no driving on the site after 5pm, and 10:00am on Saturday & Sunday; Because the site opens to the public at 10:00am on Sat/Sun, all vehicles must be on unloaded and parked before 10:00am, otherwise they will be required to unload from and park in the designated parking area.

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers 43rd Annual Concert at TNC

The Thunderbird American Indian Dancers are presenting their 43rd annual concert of music, dance and storytelling at the Theater for the New City the first two weekends of this coming February.
 
This is a unique educational and entertainment experience.  The Thunderbirds perform authentic dances of the Iroquois, Southwest and Great Plains Native American peoples. Each dance is introduced with a complete explanation of the dance and its cultural context and is accompanied by live music.  
 
Shows are on Fridays, February 2 and 9, and
Saturdays,  February 3 and 10 at 8 PM, with tickets prices of $12.
There are also special matinee performances for children on Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM, February 3, 4, 10 and 11, with tickets for children under 12 only one dollar (children must be accompanied by an adult paying the regular $12 price).
 
All performances are at the Theater for the New City,
155 First Avenue at East 10th Street in Manhattan.

This well attended pow wow will feature three days of inter-tribal Native American dance competitions to which the public is invited. Over 40 Indian nations are represented at this spectacular event held in the apple orchard on the farm grounds. A large selection of quality Native American art, crafts, jewelry and foods are available.
